Meet Bella!

Bella is a small breed mix, potentially chihuahua, Terrier, and/or Min pin?   While we can’t say for sure what her exact breed is, we do know she’s as cute as can be and full of love!

At 2-3 years old and around 13 pounds, Bella has a gorgeous medium-length brown coat. She’s sweet and laid-back once she’s had time to settle in. Her ideal home is one where she can soak up all the love and snuggles she can get!

Bella’s History

Bella came to us from a crowded shelter, where she was rescued along with her brother. At the time, she was quite unsocialized around both animals and people. After some time in a foster home with her brother, Bella moved to a new foster to focus on her own socialization. She was adopted by a first-time dog owner but was returned after five months—through no fault of her own. We’ve learned Bella would do best with a family that can confidently continue her training. We’re committed to making sure her next home is her forever one!

Bella Today

Bella is a total “velcro dog”—she would happily follow her people around all day long if she could! She loves snuggling, getting pets, going for car rides, and taking walks. She has a low-to-medium energy level, so a short daily walk is all she needs. She’s not destructive and keeps herself entertained with bones and toys.

While Bella is potty trained, she might have a few accidents when adjusting to a new home. Establishing a routine early will help her quickly learn your schedule and where she’s supposed to go.

Currently, Bella lives with three dogs, a grumpy adult cat, and a playful kitten. She’s great with cats, respecting their space or engaging in play if they’re open to it. She’s especially fond of the kitten in her foster home—they’ve become best friends! If you’re interested in adopting Bella along with her kitten pal Lola, let us know!

With other dogs, Bella enjoys playing and snuggling—after a proper introduction. A dog park wouldn’t be the right fit for her, but she does well with a slow 15-minute walk alongside a new dog to ease into friendship. Bella does have some resource guarding tendencies with other dogs (none with humans), especially when she’s on her person’s lap. A dog sibling who’s non-territorial would be ideal. Once she’s comfortable, she tends to submit to more dominant dogs, especially females (her foster home’s pittie is the queen of the pack).

Bella adores the two- and three-year-old girls in her foster home, and they love her too! She’s also crate trained, though she’ll give you her best puppy dog eyes to avoid going in. Once inside, she settles down and enjoys chewing on her bones.

Challenges

Bella’s biggest hurdle is her fear-based barking at other dogs on walks and at new people entering the home. This behavior has improved in her foster home, but she’ll need an owner who can continue to reinforce good behavior. Due to her sensitivity to noise, Bella likely wouldn’t do well in a condo or apartment setting, where sounds from neighbors could trigger more barking.
